medium: sculpture stoneware, glaze

Produced in Los Angeles, Field Study (Flora, Fauna, Funga) inspired by the dry yet

abundant landscape of California.

The residency created space to scale up the work while loosening the approach to

making— allowing for more intuitive building and surface exploration. Working at a

larger scale requires a physical and repetitive process. Time there became a meditation

on repetition—echoing the quiet sameness of a climate where each day felt much like

the next.

Surfaces developed through gesture exploration, and layering slips similar to eastern

decorative techniques such as hakeme.
